Amuneke Has Serengeti Boys Believing They Can Beat Flying Eaglets
By Iwedi Ojinmah 3 months ago
The much heralded 5-time World Champion, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have arrived in Tanzania bristling with confidence and bent on securing another title for Nigeria.
While they will be quick to point out that their initial goal is to be among the four teams to qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil as the CAF representatives., they will be less than honest with us if they say that hoisting the trophy at the end of the Final game on April the 28th at the National Stadium, in Dar es Salaam is not their main intent.
The team arrived just days after coach Manu Garba dropped much-touted Lateef Omidiji for being unimpressive in camp as well as losing two of their other teammates to the dreaded and oft fickle and unpredictable Caf MRI machine.
Yet it still loaded with tons of talent and this is why anything less than at least an appearance in the Final, will be considered a massive failure in Nigeria.
In the first game against Tanzania, Nigeria will face an opponent that will be not just well prepared physically, but that would also have thoroughly scouted the west Africans. This is because coach Oscar Mirambo who is already quite savvy himself will certainly have tons of advice from Emmanuel Amuneke who knows the Eaglets just as well as Garba himself. Mirambo has been smiling a lot of late and that for Nigeria should not sit well.
Amuneke who oversees all Tanzanian football and who worked wonders for the Tafia Stars himself will be seeking to play spoiler against his countrymen and take his cadet team as far as possible in the tournament. Will he have the luck and perseverance to pull it off? Come Sunday we will know with the first step of hopefully a long journey.
