Trouble In The Land (Video): Ndi Eze Mbaise Pour Libation, Forcing Everyone In Imo State To Support Their Son As Governor
By Iheme Kelechi 10 days ago
There is trouble in Imo State as the political environment is getting more tensed following various political steps being taken by the Emeka Ihedioha led Imo government to remain in power following various litigations challenging his declaration as the winner of the 2019 governorship election in Imo State.
The trio of Senator Hope Uzodinma of the APC, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu of AA, and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume of APGA are in court challenging Ihedioha's victory.
Few months back, the election tribunal that looked into the election petition filed by these candidates of the three political parties, while delivering judgment in Abuja, upheld the election of Ihedioha, and struck out the petitions of his challengers on technicality, despite their argument that declaration of Ihedioha lacks the constitutional requirements, having not gotten the required victory in 2/3rd of the LGAs in Imo State as stated by the Constitution.
These candidates and their parties are of the view that the judges and the judgment were compromised thus their decision to appeal against the said judgment.
Following fallouts from the judgment, a political battle line was drawn, which led to alignment of the three other candidates against the Ihedioha government. The Imo SSG, Uche Onyeagocha, being the strongest pillar of the government, took the battle to traditional rulers, using them as tools to stop their challengers by prohibiting them from recognizing any of these candidates in anyway in their respective domains.

In another bid, to stop these other candidates and their supporters which cut across the nooks and cranny of the entire state, a group of traditional rulers from the three local governments of Mbaise, following the bidding of the government and its agents went to popular Ahiara junction to pour libationsRelated: Righteousness, Service, Diligence, Hardwork And Planning, Virtues For A Nation's Greatness - Osinbajo
In the now viral video, the Ezes were seen cursing anyone who makes any move, or joins any alliance to remove their son Ihedioha as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
According to these Ezes, it was a very tough herculean task for an Mbaise son to emerge the governor of Imo State and they are not ready to loose this opportunity.
According to Mr. Austin Odom, a bonafide indigene of Mbaise, he said, "It beats my imagination how some traditional rulers, either out of emotional or monetary inducement could organise themselves to pour some kind of fetish libation on behalf of their sons and daughters who do not support the governor, a fellow son." Mr. Odom described the situation as a political sentiment which is very shameful.
Another Mbaise son, who commented on the trending video and pictures is of the view that the absence of the Chairman of Mbaise council of traditional rulers, a leader per excellence with great intellectual sagacity HRH Eze Leo Nwokeocha from that fetish act means that he understands politics, knows it's rudiments, hence disassociated himself from it, which makes the whole scene impotent, a caricature, and an exercise in futility.
According to another Imo son, the video is an embarrassment, and has exposed the political nepotism of these traditional rulers which is akin to self-destructive politics.
Another Imo son who does not want his name mentioned is of the view that Mbaise name is not too good everywhere and now this action reminds people of their clanishness, having exhibited same with the Catholic Church when Bishop Okpalaeke was posted to Mbaise as a Bishop, which they rejected, that led to the closure of the diocese for many months, and yet they rejected the Bishop, despite the intervention of the Pope and Rome.
Recall that the former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim was voted out in 2011 and his kinsmen contributed to him loosing the 2011 election to Rochas, yet there was never a time we heard that his kinsmen or traditional rulers poured libations against their sons and daughters who did not support Ohakim.
It's pertinent to point out that we live in a 21st century world where brotherhood is never a considerable option in pursuance of better governance for the general masses.
The big question now is, whether governor Ihedioha is trying to impose loyalty on all mbaise brethren towards supporting his course through traditional rulers by this singular act of what seems to be a diabolical means??
By nature's theory of humans being political beings, we are all accustomed to different political choice, views and support. It is imperative to note that loyalty can never be imposed but merited through hard work and sincerity of purpose.
Another Mbaise son, who sees this act as disgusting and sacrilegious, wants to know if the intention of the governor and these Ezes is to forcefully humble them all and force them to be loyal to His Excellency Chief Emeka Ihedioha, irrespective of their different political parties and candidates of choice simply because he hails from their clan, Mbaise?
A concerned Imo daughter and a mother, is of the view that this singular diabolical act is capable of preventing their single daughters from getting married this December.
Barr. Tony, is of the opinion that traditional rulers should not think that people will be gullible to buy into that well planned act of greed and clannishness.
According to him, actions of traditional rulers such as this makes us to start thinking about the moral capacity of these traditional rulers, their antecedents and value gauge, even before they become traditional rulers. A word of wisdom well expressed as this, is enough for the wise to work with.
