Despite rain being in the air there were fireworks on the sand as the final group stage match of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Paraguay 2019, unfolded between Nigeria and Brazil. It was especially hot for the West Africans who were on the receiving end of a shellacking.
Mauricinho and Lucao put Brazil ahead before Egan-Osi Ekujumi gave the Super Sand Eagles a glimmer of hope with a sound finish.
After Rodrigo (below) added a third goal with a driven left-footed finish into the far corner, Nigeria again clawed their way back to within one again when captain Azeez Abu rocked the Brazilian net
But moments later Lucao got his second goal of the night with a precise volley.
And then things totally fell apart for Nigeria as Brazil pulled away completely in the third period. First Rodrigo completed his hat-trick, then Bokinha secured his brace while Rafinha, Bruno Xavier, Catarino and Filipe all added to the one-sided blizzard of goals.
Brazil will now face Russia in the quarter-finals while Nigeria will be flying home to Abuja.
The Sand Eagles were far from Super in Paraguay, having been outscored by 20 goals in 3 games and earning zero points.
