Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress has ousted Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party from the Senate, according to the official result declared in Lokoja on Saturday night.
Adeyemi will now represent Kogi West in the senate.
Professor Olajide Lawal, the Returning Officer of the election, said that the former Senator and former NUJ President, who represented Kogi West in the senate from 2007-2015, Smart Adeyemi polled 88,373 votes to beat Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 62,133 votes.
Recall that it was Dino Melaye, who in 2015 came from the House of Reps, to contest the Kogi West senatorial seat and sent Smart Adeyemi home from the Senate. Dino then was of the APC extraction, while Smart Adeyemi was of the PD and the incumbent senator. Fastforward to 2019, Dino is now of the PDP and the incumbent senator, and Smart is of the APC. Each going the opposite direction. And the result, once again reversing to the opposite direction.
Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) came third in the poll with 659 votes and was trailed by John Olabode and Adeyemi Taiwo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Elements Progressive Party (NEPP who) garnered 262 and 119 votes respectively.
Following the outcome of the rerun election and results declared by the returning officer for the election, INEC has officially declared Smart Adeyemi, of the All Progressive Congress (APC),winner of the Kogi West Senatorial rerun election.
Recall that awarenessng.com had reported that INEC declared the result of the November 16th electiom inconclusive because of the low difference in margin of victory, which was lower than the cancelled votes.
This necessitated the supplementary poll that took place in 53 polling units today Saturday 30th November 2019Related: BETWEEN THUGERY AND STATE DISOBEDIENCE By Wole Soyinka
