The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) in a bid to counter the newly formed South West Security outfit Amotekun, wants the same for South East and has proposed the formation of the Ogbunigwe SecurityForce
The OYC, in a statement signed by its President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro (above), wants the creation of Ministry of Homeland Security across the South East, just as in Abia State, to help coordinate the new Regional Security outfit that will assist in intelligence gathering for and work in harmony with the traditional National Security agents.
The group further stated that the proposed Ogbunigwe Force will be pooled from the Enugu Forest Guards, the Ebonyi Neighborhood watch , the Abia Homeland Security outfit, as well as approved vigilante groups, local hunters and other Community-based Youth groups.
The OYC further shared:
“The essence of the Regional Security outfit is to ease the limitations facing the State-owned security outfits who are restricted by the boundaries of their various States.
“We have observed that criminals and suspected rouge herdsmen are taking advantage of the loopholes created by the of lack of a uniformed Regional Security outfit in the South East to perpetrate heinous crimes against Igbo and others in the region.
“The formation of the Ogbunigwe Security Force is now at the mercy of the South-East Governors Forum and State House Assemblies in the South East, as the OYC will go ahead and sponsor the bills in all the relevant State Assemblies.
“OYC also lauds the creation of Abia Ministry of Homeland Security, and warns detractors to stop being enemies of peace and urge all of the Igbo to support the new Ogbunigwe initiative”
Just as with Amotekun the force will not carry arms and is named after the deadly land mine deployed by Biafran Troops during the Civil war.
